Weekly Announcements

Aug. 20, 2017

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! This week we will have shortened day on Tuesday. Students will be released at 2:10 pm.

¡Hola comunidad de VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios! Esta semana habremos acortado el día martes. Los estudiantes serán dados a conocer a las dos y diaz en la tarde.

Tomorrow, Monday, August 21, for the first time since 1998, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States. In Los Angeles, we will experience a partial eclipse from approximately 9 am until noon. Please be aware that looking directly at the sun is unsafe and can cause permanent eye damage or other unknown effects. We encourage you to speak with your child about the risks of looking directly at the sun.

A reminder to our students that our new start time is 8:30 am. ALL students should be in class and in their seat when the bell rings at 8:30 am. Any tardy students must get a late slip from the Welcome Center. Parents should be expecting calls from the school if their child is late and we will start our detention and tardy sweep program soon. We are going in to Week 2. All students should be used to the schedule and I would expect with a later start, tardiness should not be an issue. In the next few weeks we will be holding grade-level meetings to discuss school expectations including being on-time and dress code.

There are several auditions for performing groups and shows this week as well as several informational meetings for our various sports at Legacy. I encourage you to contact any coach of teams or director of groups to get more information and find out about auditions or try-outs. Monday after school will be Dance Team auditions in the Dance Studio at 3:20 pm, Tuesday will be auditions for our A Cappella and Jazz Singers in Rm. D100 at 7:30 am, Thursday will be auditions for the Fall Musical Theatre Workshop production of “Real Life” at 3:30 in the MPR with info meetings on Tuesday at lunch and Wednesday at 3:30 pm in the MPR, and Glee Club will meet for the first time this year on Thursday at lunch.

Please go to our website and Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter links at www.vapalegacy.com for more information. That;s it for now. See you at school!

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Edward Trimis, principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School, wishing you a warm welcome to the new school year and making a few announcements. Please note I will be sending calls out most Sundays at 7 pm.

I hope you all had a wonderful summer. We are super excited about this year and all that we have planned! We talked about last year being the “Year of the Tiger” with all the new programs and activities we brought to both VAPA and all of Legacy. This year our VAPA theme is “Overcoming Adversity”. You will see the theme represented throughout the year in our classrooms, programs, concerts, and events.

Thursday, August 10 is registration day for 10th through 12th graders. Between 9 am and 3 pm, students can pick up class schedules, and parents can submit paperwork for the year, purchase PE clothes, apply for the federal meals/more than a meal program, and register for the new Pass program that replaces School Loop for getting information on student progress and more.

Friday, August 11 and Monday, August 14, teachers have professional development/meeting days, and classes start on Tuesday, August 15. Please note our new school hours most days are 8:30 am to 3:20 pm. Also, our early days this year are on Tuesdays, not Mondays. Most Tuesdays beginning on August 22 are early release days with students at school from 8:30 am to 2:10 pm.

We have lots going on in the next few weeks with several auditions, sporting events, and activities. We have our Aloha Assembly on August 31, school holidays on September 1st and 4th, a special Hispanic Heritage concert featuring many of our music groups and EL students on September 7, and an event featuring our students live on Telemundo on September 8 with our first home game against Huntington Park High School that evening.

Calendars are available in the office and all of the dates, schedules, and events will be on our website at www.vapalegacy.com along with our social media links. Calendar may be accessed at http://bit.ly/2wkPYyX

Hello VAPA Community. This is Dr. Trimis with your weekly announcements. I hope everyone had a great Spring Break. This week we have a shortened day on Monday and several events planned for both this week and next week.

As we move closer towards the end of the year, it is especially important all students stay in top of their course requirements, study for exams, and meet with teachers on a regular basis to be sure you are on the same page in terms of what you need to do. Seniors, remember you must be on track to graduate and in good standing to participate in senior events such as prom and graduation and all university acceptance offers are contingent on continued success and progress in school in the Spring semester. Parents, please call the office if you would like to meet with any teachers or your child’s counselor.

This week we are excited to present the spring musical, Disney’s High School Musical including a special pre-show, VAPA Disney Opening Act, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 pm. There will not be a matinee on Saturday.

Next week, please plan on attending a special Parent Meeting with our local district superintendent, Jose Huerta, on Wednesday, April 26, from 9 am-12 pm in the MPR at Legacy. Please also plan on attending a special meeting on Thursday, April 27, when the district will be sharing the Environmental Impact Report with the community and receive comments and questions regarding the new middle school construction across the street.

Please see our website for more information and updates as well as our Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram feeds all linked at the top of the website.

Have a great week and I’ll see you at school.
