Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Edward Trimis, principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School, wishing you a warm welcome to the new school year and making a few announcements. Please note I will be sending calls out most Sundays at 7 pm.
I hope you all had a wonderful summer. We are super excited about this year and all that we have planned! We talked about last year being the “Year of the Tiger” with all the new programs and activities we brought to both VAPA and all of Legacy. This year our VAPA theme is “Overcoming Adversity”. You will see the theme represented throughout the year in our classrooms, programs, concerts, and events.
Thursday, August 10 is registration day for 10th through 12th graders. Between 9 am and 3 pm, students can pick up class schedules, and parents can submit paperwork for the year, purchase PE clothes, apply for the federal meals/more than a meal program, and register for the new Pass program that replaces School Loop for getting information on student progress and more.
Friday, August 11 and Monday, August 14, teachers have professional development/meeting days, and classes start on Tuesday, August 15. Please note our new school hours most days are 8:30 am to 3:20 pm. Also, our early days this year are on Tuesdays, not Mondays. Most Tuesdays beginning on August 22 are early release days with students at school from 8:30 am to 2:10 pm.
We have lots going on in the next few weeks with several auditions, sporting events, and activities. We have our Aloha Assembly on August 31, school holidays on September 1st and 4th, a special Hispanic Heritage concert featuring many of our music groups and EL students on September 7, and an event featuring our students live on Telemundo on September 8 with our first home game against Huntington Park High School that evening.
Calendars are available in the office and all of the dates, schedules, and events will be on our website at www.vapalegacy.com along with our social media links. Calendar may be accessed at http://bit.ly/2wkPYyX
Have a great week and I'll see you at school!
Dr. Edward Trimis, Principal
