Hello VAPA community! This is Dr. Trimis with your weekly announcements. Monday is a shortened day and Open House is Thursday this week.

¡Hola comunidad de VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con sus anuncios semanales. El lunes es un día abreviado y Open House es el jueves de esta semana.

Thank you to Ms, Dadrass, our leadership class, our student performers, and everyone that made our first annual VAPA in the Park event on Saturday successful.

Open House will begin with a meeting reviewing A-G/UC/Cal State requirements in the library at 5 pm, a welcome and student performances in the quad at 6 pm, and classroom visits from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Looking forward, next week is Spring Break. Classes will not be in session and our offices will be closed, though there are some practices and rehearsals scheduled.

We have our annual testing approaching with some tests given before Spring Break, AP Tests the first two weeks in May followed by Smarter Balanced State Tests for juniors just afterwards. To prepare for our tests and help our juniors and seniors especially with credit recovery, we will be offering a month of intervention including daily sessions Monday through Friday from 3 to 4:30 pm and 3 days each Saturday beginning after Spring Break from April 21 through May 13.

We have several performances after the break including High School Musical with VAPA Disney: Opening Act before each show on April 20-22 and Spring Fest on May 24 and 26. For seniors, they are looking forward to Prom on April 28, Senior Awards on May 30, Grad Nite on June 2, and Graduation on June 9.

Good evening Legacy VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with your weekly announcements. Monday is a short day and there is no school on Friday. This is Music in Our Schools Month and Arts Education Month.

 Buenas noches Legacy VAPA Community! Este es el Dr. Trimis con sus anuncios semanales. El lunes es un día corto y no hay escuela el viernes. Este es el Mes de la Música en Nuestras Escuelas y el Mes de la Educación Artística.

 Thank you to all of our teachers, staff, and parents who participated in our Parent-teacher Conference Night.in Back to School Night. We have several events and activities coming up in the next few weeks. This Saturday, please join us for our First annual VAPA Festival at South Gate Park from 10 am to 3 pm. We will host games and activities and have several of our groups perform. High School Musical and a special Disney Pre-Show will be at 7 pm on April 20-22. This is a show you don’t want to miss! Spring Fest is May 24 and 26 at 6:30 pm, our Senior Recital is on May 31, and Graduation is June 8. This year we are hosting summer school at VAPA.

Spring Break is April 8th through the 16th and please note we only have a few more shortened Mondays until we return to full days on Mondays. Open House is April 6.

Good evening, VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with your weekly announcements. Monday and Friday are both shortened days.

Monday we will have our School Site Council and Shared Decision-Making Council at 3:30 pm in Rm. D100.  Thursday night is Parent Conference Night. I hope you will join us from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

This month is Music in Our Schools Month, Arts Education Month, and Women’s History Month. Congratulations to all of our students who ran with SRLA in the LA Marathon this morning and our new Color Guard who competed today in the Winter Guard Association of Southern California competition at Azusa High School.

 A reminder for students to stay on top of all of your classwork and homework. The deadline to pay for AP exams has been extended to tomorrow at the end of the day. Please see Ms. Simmons for more information.

 Please support our sports and performing arts programs. There are several games and performances in the next few months. High School Musical is April 20-22, Spring Fest is May 25-26, and this year VAPA and the VAPA PTSA will hold our first annual summer Glee Camp from July 31-August 4 and Cheer Camp from August 7-11.

Good evening VAPA Community. This is Dr. Trimis with your weekly announcements. March is Music in our Schools Month, Arts Education Month, and Women's History Month. Monday is a shortened day. On Monday at 3:30 pm we will have our School Site Council Meeting and Shared-Decision-Making Council Meeting beginning at 3:30 pm in Rm. D100.. Please join us.

Congratulations to our Legacy Girls Basketball Team who ended their season in Bakersfield at Independence High School in the CIF State Championships last Wednesday,. The girls had a great season and special thanks to Coach Estrada, his coaching staff, and all the team parents, and supporters. Congratulations to our new Jazz Choir who did a great job in their first adjudicated festival at Valencia High School on Friday and also congratulations to our new Legacy Color Guard who competed in their first competition at Arcadia High School this morning. Congratulations also to our new Legacy Swim Team who had their first meet in the season, and the first meet in team history at Legacy, last Wednesday.

March is Women’s History Month, Social Work Month, Arts Education Month, and Music in Our Schools Month. Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Eastside Arts Festival at Torres High School on Saturday. We brought 37 students in 5 performing groups on three different stages representing our dance program, instrumental and vocal music program, and drama program. Congratulations also to our new color guard who had their first competition on Saturday. They will be competing at shows throughout Southern California every weekend for the next several weeks. Are you in the new afterschool drumline program? Listen for announcements, rehearsals will start soon, probably either this week or next week. And lastly, a big congratulations to our legacy Girls Basketball Team who fought a tough battle against El Camino Real Charter High School last Wednesday ending their bid for a 3rd place title. They will now continue on to the State Championships because they are in the Open Division, the highest level that teams can play in CIF. Their next game is at Independence High School on March 8 in Bakersfield.

There are a few opportunities for parent involvement this week at Legacy VAPA. If you are a parent of an English Learner, please call us at 323-357-7531. We need you to be one of three members of our English Learners Advisory Council and meet once or twice this Spring. There is a meeting to get information transition plans for students with disabilities at Southeast Middle School Tuesday at 8:30 am and then again at 6 pm. Our PTSA can also use members and we always need volunteers at school to assist in the office and around the campus. Please call us for more information at 323-357-7531.

Congratulations to all of our Winter sports teams as they are winding up seasons and we are transitioning into Spring Sports. A special shout-out to Legacy Girls Basketball who are in the CIF City Open Division, defeating Eagle Rock High School in their Semi-Final game on Friday. They will play in the championship for 3rd place in the city this Wednesday and then on to the State Championships! Congratulations!

 We still have space in our new Color Guard program. Color Guard is a mix of using dance, tall flags, and equipment such as sabres and rifles, all put together in a performance to recorded music. The Color Guard competes in the Spring most weekends and with the marching band in field shows in the Fall. There is no audition or any fees to participate. Please go to the music room during lunch on Wednesday or after school on Monday or Wednesday this week if you are interested. We are also starting an afterschool, competitive drumline. The drumline also includes keyed percussion such as xylophones and bells, and rhythm instruments such as keyboards and electric bass. There is no audition or feeds to participate.  Lastly, we wish all of our performing groups the best of luck in their performances this Saturday at the Eastside Arts Festival at Torres High School.

Good Evening VAPA Community. This is Dr. Trimis with your weekly announcements. There is no school on Monday due the Presidents Day holiday and Tuesday is a regular A-schedule day.

This week we will have our English Learner Advisory Council Orientation, Election, and meeting on Wednesday beginning at 3:15 pm. It is critical any available parents of VAPA English learners participate in this council. Without an official council, our budgets for both this year and next year are impacted.

Esta semana tendremos nuestra Orientación, Elección y Reunión del Consejo Asesor de Aprendices de Inglés el miércoles comenzando a las 3:15 pm. Es crítico que todos los padres disponibles de los estudiantes de inglés VAPA participen en este consejo. Sin un consejo oficial, nuestros presupuestos para este año y el próximo año se ven afectados.

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Talent Show last Friday.

Congratulations also to all of the Winter Sports teams who are in play-offs and ending their seasons. We have been seeing some exciting games. Please come out and support our Boys Basketball team when they play their second play-off game at home this Tuesday night at 7 pm.

 Congratulations to all of our students who earned awards at our Academic Awards Town-Hall on Friday. Congratulations also to our Winter Season sports teams who are completing their regular seasons this week with several teams moving forward into play-offs for the post-season. Sports starting up this Spring are Swimming, Track and Field, Boys Volleyball, Boys Tennis, Baseball, Softball, and the new Competitive Cheerleading season.

Lastly, don’t miss our student and staff Talent Show this Friday at 6 pm in the MPR. Have a great week and I will see you at school.

 This is Black History Month. We are celebrating all month including an assembly with presentations and performances  at the end of the month.

 Congratulations to all of our performers and speakers who participated in our articulation road shows this past week at several of our middle school feeders and our community Open House yesterday. Our VAPA students were articulate and motivating speakers and exceptional and inspiring performers! The events were part of our recruitment plan for the Zone of Choice selection process which takes place through the end of the month. Please refer any interested families to our office if they have questions or to our website for more information.

 

Congratulations to all of our scholar-artist-athletes as the Legacy Spring Sports season begins to come to a close. This is your final opportunity to see some of our students on the field or on the court. For up-to-date sports information, go to www.legacytiger.com

And, lastly, congratulations to Coach Avalos and our VAPA Academic Decathlon Team who completed their first season at Roybal High School yesterday with the Super Quiz. Several VIPs were there supporting our students and the event including our superintendent, school board president and board members, and senior staff. I was super proud of our team who did an amazing job and proved that our school has the talent and ability to be competitive in this kind of academic event alongside their wonderful and exquisite talents in the arts! We will honor our ACADECA team at our academic awards town hall meeting this Friday.

Good evening VAPA Community. This is Dr. Trimis with your weekly announcements. Monday is a shortened day.  Buenas noches Comunidad VAPA. Este es el Dr. Trimis con sus anuncios semanales. El lunes es un día acortado.

This week we have several events an activities including articulation/recruitment events at our feeder middle schools and other field trips. There will be a School Site council meeting and Shared Decision Making Council meeting on Monday at 3:30 pm this week. There are special required parent meetings for several groups this Tuesday, January 31. Parents of students in jazz band, jazz choir, a cappella singers, and glee club will meet at 6 pm in the music room, parents of students in the Spring Musical will meet at 6:30 pm in the MPR, and parents of students in Color Guard will meet at 7 pm in the Music Room. At each meeting parents will get an overview of this semesters performances, rehearsals and commitments including competitions, festivals, and tours, and will have the opportunity to ask any questions. All of the instructor/coaches will be at the meetings. We will also have information about PTSA at the meetings and PTSA representatives will be there to answer questions.

We are deep into our Spring semester, even though it has only been a few weeks since Winter break! We have several new programs and staff for this semester. Any students who are still interested these new programs, please check with the coach or instructor because you may still be able to get involved. Our new Color Guard meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after school and are preparing for upcoming competitions. The coach instructor is Andres Olvera. Swim Team is starting up this week pending final processing of our coach, Jessica Curiel. The Spring Musical is in full swing, rehearsing on Tuesdays through Thursdays after school for now and directed by drama teacher, Stacie Craig. And our afterschool competitive drumline with coach/instructor Ajay Mani will start up this week or next week. Our new technical theatre program taught my Miguel Delgado is scheduled to also start this week.  Congratulations to our jazz and a cappella singers and jazz band who went into the studio last Wednesday to record their first single, "Legacy VAPA", soon available everywhere. Congratulations to our VAPA ACADECA Team who did a fantastic job in their first competition on Saturday which included presenting two speeches, writing an essay, and participating in an interview. The team, coached by Mr. Avalos, has another day of competition this Saturday.
