Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Hola comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!

Hard to believe that this will be my last weekly call of the year as we are in the midst of closing out this year, preparing for Graduation and other final events, and plan for next year. This has been a fantastic year for VAPA and we are excited about all we have planned for the future.

A big thank you to our senior sponsor, Ms. Alvarez, and our counselors, teachers, and staff for all they did this year for our students.

A few reminders:

We are on a finals schedule the next two days and both Wednesday and Thursday are minimum days. Students are dismissed after Period 7 but may stay for lunch at 12:45 pm. Senior Activities this week: Monday-Cap Decorating and Movie Night at 3:30 pm, Tuesday-Senior Trip to Mt. St. Mary’s University at 8:30 am, Wednesday-Senior Breakfast and Graduation Practice at 7:30 am, and Thursday-Graduation at 6 pm at the South Gate Municipal Auditorium. The last day of instruction is Thursday and Friday is a Teacher Planning Day.

 Summer School starts June 18 and the first day of instruction for the new year is August 14, 2018.

A reminder to students to be aware of auditions, scholarships, contests, internships, summer camps, and other opportunities by listening to PA announcements, seeing fliers on our bulletin boards, and checking our website and social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook which are linked on the website at www.vapalegacy.com

Please have a positive and safe summer. Seniors, we all wish you the best of luck as you leave our wonderful school community and remember you are always welcome. Please keep in touch. Congratulations to all of our dancers who were featured on our last 2018 Spring Fest event this past Friday. A big thank you to Mr. Adolfo who recorded and live streamed the event to VAPA Television and Mr. Delgado and his tech crew for lights, sound, and house support. And, lastly a big thank you to director, Mr. Sanna-Pickett, Assistant Director, Emmanel Hernandez, families, and supporters.

A reminder to stay on top of all your classwork and assignments. Finals will be here soon and we want all of our students to pass all their classes with a C or better.

A reminder of our upcoming events the last few weeks of school. The Extra-Mile Awards will be Tuesday at 2:15 pm, Senior Recital and Awards Gala is Wednesday at 6 pm, Grad Night on June 2, Senior Trip is June 5, Senior Breakfast and Graduation Practice is on June 6, and Graduation is on June 7. The last day of instruction is June 7 and both June 6th and 7th are minimum days.

I will have more information about summer and Fall next week which will be your last weekly phone call of this school year.

Legacy VAPA Weekly Announcements

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Hola comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!

First of all, the Open Enrollment Application Window is still open and we still have some openings, so please spread the word. Anyone who is interested in attending VAPA should see us at the office as soon as possible.

Congratulations to all of our Freshmen who completed the ACE development program for three days last week and the faculty and staff who were team leaders and chaperones. A big thank you to Educare who hosted and facilitated the event. We will continue providing the ACE experience to our students each year.

A big thank you to Ms. Alvarez and her team who organized our wonderful Legacy Prom on Saturday. The event was fantastic!

Congratulations to all of our baseball team who has a play-off game this Tuesday at Port of Los Angeles High School at 3 pm.

Congratulations to all of our instrumental musicians who were featured on our Spring Fest event last Friday. Monday: All students running for ASB Offices required meeting in the Library during Homeroom

Tuesday: Leaders in Me Student Team and Staff Team Action Planning all day, Senior Choir practice at lunch, Baseball Play-off after school (away)

Wednesday: Young Arts presentation 1:50 pm in the MPR, Spring Fest Dance Tech after school, Show Choir Auditions at lunch and after school.

Thursday: Springfest Dance: Dress Rehearsal after school.

Friday: Spring Fest Dance Show at 6:30 pm.

First of all, a reminder to our community that the district’s Open Enrollment application window is now open. Anyone who is interested in attending VAPA, and not in the South Gate or Bell Zones of Choice, should see us at the office as soon as possible. Please spread the word.

Congratulations to Mrs. Cho and our vocal groups for a great Spring Fest performance last Friday. Please be sure to go to our next two Spring Fest Events, Bands, Orchestras, and Instrumental Groups on May 18, and Dance Groups and solos on May 25. All shows start at 6:30pm.

As we press closer and closer to the end of the school year, it is critical that all of our students complete any missed assignments and stay in constant communication with teachers about ways to raise grades.

A reminder that this week we will administer our last AP tests which will be followed soon by semester finals. We are also starting to schedule students into classes for next year so this is the perfect time to check with the counseling office to be sure we have the correct arts career path course, elective, or AP class scheduled for all students.

Congratulations to all of our sports teams who are starting to complete their seasons. Congrats to Swim and Track and Field and Boys Volleyball who have completed their play-off games and/or prelims and City Finals. Congrats to Baseball who still may play in play-offs and congrats to softball who won their first play-off game, 10-0 against Lakeview and play Roosevelt tomorrow at Roosevelt.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Hola comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!

 First of all,  the Open Enrollment Application Window is now open and we still have some openings, so please spread the word. Anyone who is interested in attending VAPA should see us at the office as soon as possible.

This month is Mental Health Awareness Month, Foster and Kinship Care Awareness Month and we are celebrating National Teacher and Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week this week.

Our Advanced Placement Exams start this week. We wish all students taking any AP exams the best of luck.

Congratulations to all of our sports teams who continue to have excellent seasons this Spring and will be playing in the play-offs and post-season games. Last week were the League Finals for Swim and Track and Field and this week ion Thursday and Friday are the City Finals for Track and Field and Swim. Don’t miss our Boys Volleyball Team in a play-off game at Jordan High School this Tuesday at 7 pm and our Softball Team in a play-off game at home on Thursday at 3 pm.

 This week be sure to attend the first of our Spring Fest Programs with the Vocal Music show on Friday at 6:30 pm. We will have Spring Fest Previews this week at 2:15 pm on Wednesday and Thursday.

All ninth graders must return their field trip permission forms for the three-day ACE program this week. The awesome three-day event is in the South Bay on May 16-18.

For seniors, a reminder Prom is on May 19, Senior Recital and Awards Gala is on June 30, Grad Night on June 2, Senior Breakfast and Graduation Practice is on June 6, and Graduation is on June 7. We will start Senior Choir rehearsals for any seniors who want to sing and dance at graduation on May 14.

 First of all, a reminder to our community that though the Zone of Choice application window has closed, we still have some openings, so please spread the word. Anyone who is interested in attending VAPA should see us at the office as soon as possible.

 This week is OPEN HOUSE. We will hold a Community Open House alongside our regular Open House for newly enrolled, VAPA Class of 2022 students and families as well as prospective students and their families on May 3. Newly enrolled students will start their evening at 4:30 pm with initial placement tests  followed by student performances and information about performing groups, clubs, and electives, followed by a parent meeting at 6 pm. Our regular Open House will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Please be sure you are in your classroom at or before 5:30 pm. Please note you may have some visitors from the community from our Freshman and their famil9esnwho will join VAPA this Fall.

 A reminder our state testing, the SBAC tests, will continue this week with the math exams. It is critical all of our students are at school every day. Testing will run through the end of the Advanced Placement tests in the middle of May which will be followed shortly after by semester finals.

 Congratulations to all of our sports teams who continue to have excellent seasons this Spring and will soon be playing in the play-offs and post-season games. Please come out and support the baseball, softball, swim, cheer,  track and field, and boys tennis teams at home or away games.

 

Don't miss SPRINGFEST on May 11 (vocal muisc), May 18 (instrumental music), and May 25 (dance) at 6:30 each night (Fridays).

 This has been a busy and successful week for Legacy VAPA and we are looking forward to another busy and successful week!

 First of all, a reminder to our community that though the Zone of Choice application window has closed, we still have a few openings for new students in 2018-19. We will hold a Community Open House alongside our regular Open House for newly enrolled, VAPA Class of 2022 students and families as well as prospective students and their families on May 3. Please spread the word about this event and our openings.

 Congratulations to the cast and crew of our Spring Musical, Aladdin, which closed Saturday night. Congratulations also to our Legacy Color Guard Team who competed in the Winterguard Association of Southern California Finals in Huntington Beach on Saturday. Congratulations also to our Track and Field Team who hosted their last final meet on Friday. Be sure to come out and support our Spring sports teams as they complete their regular seasons in the next few weeks.

A reminder our state testing, the SBAC tests, are continuing this week. It is critical all of our students are at school every day. Testing will run through the end of the Advanced Placement tests in the middle of May which will be followed shortly after by semester finals.

 Please be sure to attend our upcoming events including our Community Open House on May 3 and Springfest on May 11th, 18th, and 25th.

Also, please note our school day starts every day at 8:30 am. Students who are excessively late or have excessive absences from one or more class, including homeroom, may not be allowed to participate in school activities including programs, dances, and graduation.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Tuesday is a shortened day.  Hola comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios! El martes es un día acortado.

This has been a busy and successful week for Legacy VAPA and we are looking forward to another busy and successful week!

First of all, a reminder to our community that though the Zone of Choice application window has closed, the Appeals process and one-time transfer process has begun. Any new student who wants to appeal their placement, if, for example, a student was given another school and wish to go to VAPA, they can appeal to the Zone of Choice. Also, if any student who is a current student at another Zone of Choice school, they may apply for a one-time transfer to come over to Legacy VAPA. We still have some openings, so please spread the word. We have forms in the office or they are located on the Zone of Choice website. Looking forward, we will hold a Community Open House alongside our regular Open House for newly enrolled, VAPA Class of 2022 students and families as well as prospective students and their families on May 3. Please also spread the word about this event.

This week several VAPA students and groups were busy with a stellar performance in the LAUSD Benefit for Arts Education, “We Are One”, last Thursday at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Jazz Choir at a festival in Oceanside at Mira Costa College, Cheer Team in a competition on Saturday at Torres High School. We are proud of all of our students and student groups and wish them the best of luck on upcoming events. Congratulations also to stuents who were inducgted into the National Honor Society on Friday after a rigorous application process.

April is April Is Asian Pacific Islander Heritage, Autism Awareness, Financial Literacy, Jazz Appreciation, Mathematics Awareness, Military Child, National Bilingual/Multilingual Learner Advocacy, National Child Abuse Prevention, National Poetry, Parkinson Awareness, Public Schools, Sexual Assault Awareness, Stress Awareness, and Young Child Month.

Our School Site Council meets on Monday at 4 PM in Rm. D100. If you are a member, please be sure to attend; reaching a quorem is critical for this meeting.

This week several of our VAPA students will be performing in the LAUSD Benefit for Arts Education, “We Are One”, Thursday at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Please support our students and arts education by attending. Ticket information is on our website.

 Thank you to all of the juniors who came to school on Saturday for our special program to assist with math prep along with students who are taking our SAT Prep online assisted classes on Saturdays. Thank you also to our teachers who taught the classes on Saturday.

Congratulations to all of our sports teams who continue to have excellent seasons this Spring. Please come out and support the baseball, softball, swim, cheer, and boys tennis team at home or away games.

 Congrats to Legacy Color Guard who had a great competition today at Sweetwater High school increasing their score form their last competition by 10 points. Finals are in Orange County on April 21. Good luck to Legacy Cheer competing this Saturday in their next league meet. Good luck also to the VAPA Jazz Choir competing this Saturday at the Oceanside Jazz Festival at Mira Costa College.

Though the regular Zone of Choice application season has closed, we can still take students in on a space-available basis and current students may apply for one-time transfers. We have space for more students. Please spread the word to family and friends.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Edward Trimis, principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School with a few announcements. Tomorrow, Monday, April 2, is a school holiday as we honor Cesar Chavez. Tuesday is a shortened day.

 We have lots going on in the next few weeks as we start to gear up for standardized testing including Smarter Balanced tests in math and English (11th Grade), and Science (12th Grade), and Advanced Placement Tests. Please note we will be continuing our prep sessions for math and SAT on April 7.
